FARM RAISED LAMB

FARM RAISED LAMB

MEAT
Black Welsh produces a superior meat retaining a mild flavor - true garden-fresh lamb. They are particularly noted for their ability to produce high quality meat and wool on a forage based system with little or no grain inputs.
Our animals are grass-fed and not treated with hormones. They receive only minimal annual immunizations to protect their health. They are humanely butchered at a high quality Maryland USDA facility and the meat is flash frozen. Our lamb products meet the most stringent USDA requirements and our facility is fully licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Certificate available upon request.

RAW FLEECE
Black Welsh is often classed as a Down-Type Wool Breed. It has a distinctive crisp feel and a full, spongy handle. Ranges in fiber diameter from fine to medium ...2 to 3.5" length.
Our flock is registered with the American Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Assoc.
Type: Down-Type Fleece
More BLACK WELSH info: each fleece is uniquely different. This is a primitive breed that still sheds its wool (like shetlands and icelandics). Most fleeces will have the short new growth of wool (called "rise") growing up thru last years growth.
These fleeces are totally raw, but have been lightly skirted.
16 OZ BAG $10. Ships UPS ground. Shipping charges apply.

BREEDING STOCK
Black Welsh Mountain Sheep are a small, dual purpose breed that provides excellent mild mutton and a completely black, dense, durable fleece. Mature ewes average 100 lbs while mature rams can range from 132-143 pounds. There is no restriction on breed height, but most purebred animals are relatively short (typically measuring between 20-30 inches at the shoulders). The ewes are polled and the rams have an impressive set of horns. The tails must be kept long and undocked in purebred animals. To learn more about breed standards visit:
